Heat pump installation

Installing a heat pump is a big step, and we know that having a clear, straightforward process makes all the difference. Our installation journey guides you from your first enquiry right through to enjoying a warm, energy-efficient home.

So, if you’re thinking about getting an air source heat pump installed, read on. We’ve also included a handy installation video at the bottom of this article so you know what to expect on installation day.

1. Consultation and quote

Every heat pump journey with EDF Heat Pumps (CB Heating) starts with a discovery call with one of our expert consultants. We’ll take the time to understand your home, your current heating system and your family’s requirements. Whether you’re replacing your old fossil fuel system, looking to lower your energy bills, or reduce carbon emissions, we’ll explore the options that best suit your needs. After this, we’ll provide a clear and detailed quote, so you know exactly what to expect, with no hidden surprises.

2. Place your order

When you’re ready to go ahead, simply confirm your order with your consultant. We’ll send you a contract and a 10% pro forma invoice to secure your installation. This step allows us to begin preparing everything for your installation to proceed.

3. Technical Assessment

Next, we’ll agree a convenient date for your Technical Assessment. At the same time, we’ll book a provisional installation date, so you have a clear timeline to work to.

A member of our installation team will visit your home. They’ll take measurements, gather important details and capture the photos we need to complete an accurate heat loss calculation for your property. We’ll also apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) on your behalf (if you are eligible), helping with the upfront cost of your new air source heat pump.

4. System design

Using the information collected, we will create a bespoke system design tailored to your property. This includes carefully sizing your heat pump to ensure it meets your home’s heating and hot water requirements efficiently and reliably.

5. Design Confirmed and Installation Booked

Next, we’ll talk you through the final design and confirm everything is feasible and right for your home. Once we’ve got your approval, we’ll book a convenient date with you for the install and select one of our installers for the install.

6. Payment and Heat Pump Delivery

Around five weeks before installation, we’ll issue an invoice for your heat pump with payment due within seven days of the installation date. This allows us to order and prepare your equipment in good time. Once installation begins, we’ll send your completion invoice.

7. Installation

Your system will be installed by one of our local trusted expert installers. We work with installers in and around your area who deliver high-quality workmanship. During this stage, we’ll also ask you to settle the final balance. For a detailed look at what happens during the installation, have a look at the video below.

Your installer will arrive on site and begin your heat pump installation following the approved design and installation plan given to them by our design team. Your installer will install the outside unit and hot water cylinder in the agreed locations and then run all the necessary pipework and controls to connect everything.

Your installer will ensure that any diusruption and mess is kept to an absolute minimum.

8. Handover

After your installation, we’ll thoroughly inspect and commission your system to ensure everything is working perfectly. Your installer will show you how to use your new heating system, so you feel confident and in control from day one.  If you have any questions, please do make sure you ask your installer before they leave.

9. MCS Registration

Finally, we’ll register your system with MCS and issue your warranty, guarantees and completion certificates. This step ensures your installation meets recognised industry standards for workmanship and quality.
